The Charms of an Iowa Wedding
By Richard Jones
The Charms of an Iowa Wedding An Iowa wedding can be one of the most beautiful and joyous occasions of your life. Other states have their own types of advantages, but Iowa is a one of a kind location for a wedding. Several factors contribute to this. 1. Tradition is important in an Iowa wedding. Brides love to incorporate the familiar wedding themes and activities into their event. Choosing the size and composition of the wedding party is done with a nod to the traditions of the occasion. Lighting the unity candle, exchanging rings, lifting the veil for the first kiss, and the dollar dance are all traditions that many Iowa weddings contain. 2. An Iowa wedding may be unusual in the way the decorations are made. People in Iowa often like to do handcrafts and so there are numerous hand made objects that are available to adorn the wedding location. Silk flowers, satin pew ribbons, and handcrafted centerpiece candles are just a few of the choices you can find. 3. Many people who have an Iowa wedding enjoy having their wedding clothing custom made. Because there are so many people in the area who sew for a living, it is easy to find someone to make those special dresses. What is more, the cost is usually quite low due to the low overhead of home manufacture. 4. Iowa is famous for its lovely church weddings. Often, an Iowa wedding is held in a fairly small church, where everyone is close. The feeling is intimate and comfortable. Everyone can see and hear everything that is going on, and just as important, they can feel a part of the ceremony. Even an Iowa wedding in a larger church can be intimate because most of the churches are simple and elegant. 5. You will likely see large groups of close knit family and friends at an Iowa wedding. Iowa is a good place for relatives who take the time and effort to get to know one another and stay in touch. The practice of family togetherness is common in this state. 6. In just about any of the towns, you will find lodging for your Iowa wedding guests. That lodging is usually quite comfortable and affordable. Sometimes, local wedding guests will take in out of town guests to stay in their homes during the wedding week or weekend. Hospitality is customary in Iowa weddings. 7. You will find cozy restaurants or church basements in which to take your meals. The rehearsal dinner can be brought into the church, or you can make a reservation at a local restaurant. There are some very fine, as well as some nice casual, restaurants available for Iowa wedding parties. If you are deciding between several states in which to get married, consider all the positive aspects of having an Iowa wedding. You might find that it is the most convenient, comfortable, and traditional wedding location you come across. You and your loved one might even find that it is the most beautiful.
